The NFI organizes a basic course in Forensic Knot Analysis
at the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI). Forensic Knot Analysis can reveal
information in forensic cases in which victims are tied, hung, packed with the
aid of ligature, etcetera. Forensic knot analysis can also be helpful for a
correct assessment in cases of suspected suicide.
This course focuses on knotting
theory, illustrated with examples from real cases. Furthermore, we elaborate on
how to secure ties and knots, and the risks of undoing them. Participants of
the course also practice making the most common knots themselves.
